CowParade goes to Europe

While Cow Parade art exhibits have been hosted in cities all around the world, one of the most creative displays to date was in London, England in 2002. London, a city rich in history, humor, and culture, was an ideal location for a creative Cow Parade public art project. Using a most unusual canvas–a fiberglass cow, local artists were able to express historical and cultural influences, ideas, and events unique to London and Europe. What were at first plain, unadorned fiberglass cows, resulted in an incredible display of painted bovine creations! Seen by millions of residents and tourists along the streets of England’s capital, in famous stores such as Harrods, and grazing in lush parks throughout the city, were a great variety of life-size decorated cow sculptures.

There are many cows in the line that are some of my favorites. You can find cows like Muuza that will surely get you excited if you are into pop art.  Or Cowpatra if you are into Egyptian artwork. These cows are real pieces of art and they make excellent gifts or simply a real icebreaker in any crowd.

CowParade has become a very popular line because of its amazing artwork all over the World.

CowParade has brought cows to the forefront of popularity

If the Cows could say Thank you, they would definitely give a huge shout out to the makers of the CowParade!  Cows have been an important part of farming over the centuries! But who would have thought the  makers could turn such an animal into a piece of art.

Well for about a decade now that is exactly what has happened.  They have taken over cities all across the World.  Cows on Parade!  The first year that they took over a city it was Chicago (1999), then New York City (2000), London (2002), Tokyo (2003), and Brussels (2003). Dublin (2003), Prague (2004), and Stockholm (2004), Mexico City (2005), Sao Paulo (2005), Buenos Aires (2006), Boston (2006) Paris (2006), Milan (2007, and Istanbul (2007).  This year they are making their debut in Madrid, Taipei and most recently in LaJolla!

They have recently released a New Herd 2009 for Winter 2009. I am sure you will have a favorite cow after you check out the new herd.

Maybe it will be Take It Easy or maybe you are all about true farming and the past, so your favorite is Barn Cow or better yet you are a real patriot and its Americow Either way, are you as much a cow enthusiasts as the best of the CowParade gang?

The next time you get a chance to go to a Livestock Show and Rodeo…get out there and support the centuries old traditions of cattle herding!

Until Next time….Get em mooooving out of your way! :)

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

In the Spring of 1995, I was invited to go work for 3 weeks in Houston, Texas. I would be selling trick ropes to lil “cow”boys and “cow”girls. I was told that I would be able to attend the Rodeo and Livestock show for 3 weeks and would make great money doing it. So I jumped on the opportunity.

The 3 week event was life changing. I had a lot of fun. I got to go to the Rodeo every night. I got to listen to many famous singers like Reba McEntire and “Selena” (less than a month later she was died) singing to sold out crowds. When I think back to that experience there is one of the cows in the new CowParade line that really comes to mind Take it easy

It was a very intense experience yet truly amazing. To be in attendance at the last concert of Selena. It was a SOLD OUT concert. I would never have attended any of her concerts otherwise and it was one of the best! She was a real showman!

Every year Houston hosts “The Houston Livestock and Rodeo” and Cowboys and Cowgirls come from all around the Country to compete. They would compete with their ponies in barrel racing, cowboys would rope cows in calf roping competition, and then there is the dangerous Bull riding competition. Speaking of bull riding competitions, there is one of the cows in the Cowparade line that reminds me of this competition Cow Gone Wild its a real wild cow! I saw some real crazy competitions during that 3 week event.

So while in town for the event I could not help myself from heading over to the Cow barn for the Livestock show. While at the show there were cows from all over. There were Angus bulls, Holstein cows, Guernsey heifers and Jersey cows all lined up getting ready to show. When I see the Jersey cows I think of the new cow in the Cowparade line called Barn Cow

If you ever get a chance to attend the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo don’t pass on the chance. It will be a decision you won’t regret! You will have a blast! While in Houston check out the Cows on display. The Herd took over Houston in 2001!

Until Next time, don’t be too moooooving! :)

Santa-Cali-Gon Days

“Santa-Cali-Gon days” Growing up in the midwest I attended a really cool festival every year! It was a celebration of the cattle drives that spread across the country. It celebrates the Santa Fe trail, California trail and the Oregon trail. Every year they have a big parade of the Cows. In the new Cow Parade line, Barn Cow reminds me of the days back in Missouri and attending the festival.

Kansas City, being in the center of the country saw a lot of Cows on their way west. They have some very famous stockyards in the West bottoms. They are known for the Cow Parade KC back in 2000. As you read in a previous story they took over the City!

So the next time you are in KC, look up the Labor Day festival in Independence, MO.

Until next time, keep moooving the cows!

Cow raids Kansas City

I can remember a few years back the “Cows” paraded around Kansas City and took over the downtown area. Kansas City is famous for being the city of fountains but the “Cows” sure gave them a run for their money.

Growing up I can remember going every year to the American Royal. The American Royal would begin with a great parade in the month of October (yeah it was pretty cold) but the parade route was always lined with little cowboys and cowgirls ready to lasso a calf. It was always the one consistent item on the schedule to kick off the 3 week event. In 2001, the “Cows” would bring the World to Kansas city to see them. If they were there for the American Royal event then they would take the short trek to the downtown area to see the “Cows”.

Americow reminds me of the years going to the American Royal. You will find that people that attended this celebration of yesteryear were very patriotic citizens of this great Country! Kansas City was well known for its stockyards. It was a major trading area for the farmers in the tri state area (Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa) and they would bring their livestock to show them off. They would bring their “Cows”, “Horses”, sheep, and pigs.

So if you are in San Diego this year for the raiding of the Cows on San Diego, just remember that Kansas City survived!

Until next time keep moooving!
